Bearing a Bellerophon letter

今天蔚神反映翻译机挂了。测试一下，顺手打了几个句子，有一句是蛋总的名言”你们这是自寻死路”，翻译结果是“You are bearing a Bellerophon letter!”。

当然我们知道蛋总名言的英文是”You are not prepared!” 那这个bearing a Bellerophon letter是啥意思呢？首先要从Bellerophon这个人名说起。Bellerophon 这个名字来源于希腊神话中的英雄Bellorophon, Bellerophon其实是他的一个故事，下面是这个人的简介

希腊神话中的英雄，俊美勇武，曾乘天马佩加索斯（Pegasus），射死喷火怪物奇美拉，并先后战胜索吕摩与阿玛宗等部落。最后柏勒洛丰变得非常傲慢，因欲参加众神的集会，乘佩加索斯上天，触怒众神。宙斯差遣了一只牛蝇去螫佩加索斯，让柏勒洛丰从马上摔下致死，而把佩加索斯留下养在天庭，这就是天马座。柏勒洛丰在科斯林受到崇拜。关于柏勒洛丰的神话，既具有古代民间故事的特点，又有关于希腊时代以前所崇拜的神祇的概念。索福克勒斯和欧里庇得斯都将其编成悲剧故事留传下来。

这幅图就是Bellerophon（音译的话应该是柏勒洛丰）大战奇美拉的故事，这奇美拉的样子似乎与游戏中有些不同。

知道了这个人，那么Bellerophon letter 又是什么呢？这其实是这位英雄的光辉勇武之下的另一个故事。

Bellerophon was a citizen of Corinth who was exiled owing to a murder which he had committed. In those days it was possible to be purified of the guilt of such a crime, and Bellerophon was in due course absolved by King Proetus of neighboring Tiryns. The king’s wife, generally identified as Stheneboea, made a pass at the young hero, and when he repulsed her advances she told her husband that it was Bellerophon who made a pass at her.

大概就是这位英雄成名之作就是杀了一个人。但是英雄还是跑路了，英雄呆在邻国的时候被王后看上，王后勾引不成恼羞成怒，谎称受到了英雄的骚扰。于是国王大怒，想除掉英雄。

Proetus dared not satisfy his anger by killing a guest, so he sent Bellerophon to King Iobates his father-in-law, in the plain of the River Xanthus in Lycia, bearing a sealed message in a folded tablet: “Pray remove the bearer from this world: he attempted to violate my wife, your daughter. Before opening the tablets, Iobates feasted with Bellerophon for nine days. On reading the tablet’s message Iobates too feared the wrath of the Erinyes if he murdered a guest; so he sent Bellerophon on a mission that he deemed impossible: to kill the fire-breathing monster the Chimera, living in neighboring Caria. The Chimera was a fire-breathing monster whose make-up comprised the body of a goat, the head of a lion and the tail being a serpent. This monster had terrorized the nearby countryside. Iobates sent Bellerophon on the quest to fight the Solymi, tribesmen bent on glory. Bellerophon defeated them but not easily.

国王于是给他的岳父，也是另一个国王写了封信，然后让Bellerophon去送信，信里的内容就是让岳父大人立刻处死送信人。看到这里，我们就知道了”Bearing a Bellerophon letter”确实就是自寻死路的意思。那么英雄的结局如何呢，我们可以看到，岳父大人也没有一刀做了英雄，而是让他去完成一个不可能的任务，击杀怪物奇美拉，以及打败女战士部族亚马逊等等。
